Interesting portrait of Anders Martens
Ten years ago, Anders Martens joined the “rough diamond” with one specific task – since then, the logistics company has multiplied
Anders Martens, an experienced leader in the logistics industry, became CEO of the Danish logistics company Link Logistics in 2014. Martens joined the company after several years at TNT and DHL, where he held various leadership positions. At Link Logistics, he was hired with the main task of preparing the company for sale, a task he completed in 2019 when the Nordic private equity fund Polaris acquired the company. The sale marked a milestone in the company’s history.
Remarkable growth
Under Martens’ leadership, Link Logistics has experienced remarkable growth, with revenue increasing from around DKK 150 million in 2014 to reaching DKK 1 billion in 2024.
Despite challenges, including a tough year in 2023 when the logistics market was under pressure, Martens has managed to steer the company through difficulties by focusing on long-term strategy and necessary adjustments. Martens remains positive about the future and has no plans to leave Link Logistics.

Customer Interview – VEO
As sales gained momentum across North America, Veo sought a new logistics solution to fuel their expansion, sharpen their game plan, and streamline their ventures across the pond from Denmark. Veo wasn’t looking for just a simple logistical solution – but a logistics partner with the agility and know-how to establish a streamlined new warehouse and move towards more sustainability. Link Logistics became that partner.

A Winning Team: How Veo and Link Logistics Are Running the Game
At Veo, Peter Baier leads the Logistics division. With over three decades of expertise in supply chain and logistics, he immediately recognised a compelling business case for Veo’s expansion with a warehouse in the US market when he joined their team.
However, given Veo’s unique requirements and scale, it became evident that a shift was necessary:
“Initially, we reached out to our former logistics partner. But, splitting our warehouse between Denmark and the States wouldn’t work because our business wouldn’t be big enough for their requirements. We also checked out another American logistics solution, but their setup was a bit too complicated for us, and we felt like just another number to them. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it led us into the hands of Link Logistics”.
This marked the beginning of a winning partnership, with Link Logistics stepping up to the plate and assisting Veo in setting up a warehouse in New Jersey, US, and fine-tuning logistics processes across their supply chain. But, the real challenge laid ahead, as the process moved on to managing the supply chain and responding to the real-time needs of the business.
A partnership built on synergy and sustainability
“Entering the US market brought about our main worry: we had to cut down on costs without compromising delivery speed for our customers. Link Logistics came through for us in a big way, as they for one were able to deal with our bulky 7.4-meter camera tripod. Not only did they deliver on their promises but also assisted us in cost savings while reducing our CO2 emissions”, Peter Baier explains.
Collaborating with Veo empowered Link Logistics to negotiate more favourable deals with their suppliers, initially benefiting both Veo and Link.
“I reckon that one of the key reasons this partnership is successful is because we’ve been spot-on at sharing what we need and making sure everyone’s on the same page about our journey ahead. Right now, I know that I can throw anything in Link’s direction – I know that they’ll always take care of everything. They’ve proven just that. I’m genuinely excited about the potential and ongoing work in this partnership, particularly when I think about our expansion into new markets. Asia might be up next”, Peter Baier tells.

Trust your gut and just do it
Many scale-ups are looking at establishing a foothold in the US market. But like all new expansions this presents various challenges that – according to Peter Baier – requires more than a strong business case:
“My top advice for companies on the brink of such a move? Take the leap. It might sound simple, but trust me, sometimes you’ve got to build the plane as you fly it – just as we did at Veo. From my experience, there’s always a bit of hesitancy in management, even when the numbers paint a compelling picture. It’s crucial to address these concerns head-on. Additionally, make sure you prioritise effective communication about change throughout the process to get everyone on board. And don’t forget to lean on partners like Link for support and guidance along the way”
Last but not least, Peter Baier has another advice:
“Always keep your house in order: Every piece of data we provide to Link holds potential for improvement and growth. Begin by reviewing and refining your own setup; with a foundation set for success, partnering with the right ally will propel your growth.”.

Customer Interview – Pas Normal Studios
When monitoring the peloton of cyclists who frequented Danish roads, it was clear that a new rider had to put functionality and aesthetics into gear and set out to lead the peloton in terms of developing premium cycling apparel that is designed to shape the fashion of modern cycling in various contexts. Pas Normal Studios is that rider.
A partner geared for growth
When Ashleigh Jones, Head of Global Sales at Pas Normal Studios, was asked why the company has chosen Link as its logistics partner, he replied:
“Since the foundation of Pas Normal Studios, we have experienced some progressive growth rates. Obviously, this has been a contributing factor in terms of implementing various requirements and criteria related to the flexibility and adaptability of our logistics setup. It has always been a priority for us to collaborate with a partner that could grow with us. Here, Link has been with us from the very start.”
Flexibility and adaptability can be expressed in different ways. Here, Ashleigh emphasizes that we live in a world that is fallible – errors do occur. Therefore, it is not all about avoiding errors. Rather, it is about initiating collaborations with partners that are adaptable to changing needs and are geared to rearrange if an error should occur.
Due diligence achieved through dialogue
“With Link, we have only experienced good, close, and constructive dialogue. This has been especially decisive in adapting and preparing us to solve the challenges that naturally emerge from rapid growth,” according to Ashleigh Jones of Pas Normal Studios.
The Danish cycling apparel brand has become increasingly relevant on a global scale, represented through flagship stores in the US, Europe and Asia as well as wholesale and retail partners across the globe. When a company scales at a pace comparable to Pas Normal Studios, it naturally puts pressure on the value chain and logistics setup of the company. Here, it has been crucial for Link Logistics to prepare Pas Normal Studios with respect to the upcoming logistics challenges that the progressive growth of the company will give rise to and thereby shape the prospective needs and challenges for Pas Normal Studios.
In relation to this, Ashleigh emphasizes the importance of an established holistic setup.
“A partner that can provide a sufficient and seamless 360-degree setup on logistics is pivotal for us. Inbound, outbound, sea freight, air freight, shipping – you name it. The solution from Link has been flanked with an irreproachable level of service, especially around our exports outside Europe, where different duties, intermodal rates, and other critical logistics factors apply. It occupies a considerable number of resources to navigate within the global field of logistics – Link has reduced these resources significantly.”
A partnership pervaded by high pace and ambition
The big and beating cycling heart of Ashleigh has led him to Pas Normal Studios. As his story unfolds, it becomes clear that the passion for cycling is a common thing among the employees of Pas Normal Studios. The passion of some has been cultivated through road racing since childhood; some have found the path into the world of cycling at a later stage in life. Regardless, Pas Normal Studios is, among other values, shaped by ambitions and the desire for achieving a high pace.
This becomes evident as the discussion evolves on how Pas Normal Studios responds to a sudden wave of orders in relation to logistics.
“Our business model is – among others – centred around several product launches throughout the year. Here, we have once been caught off guard based on the large number of orders in relation to what has been estimated. Here, flexibility from Link has been key to unlocking resources that ensure our backlog of orders is shipped in no time. We are in dialogue almost daily to ensure optimal freight solutions with respect to commercial and environmental concerns and of course ensuring that every order gets dispatched.”

E-commerce fulfillment: trends shaping the future
Revolutionizing E-Commerce: The Future of Fulfillment Unveiled
Why are businesses struggling with scaling order processing? As e-commerce booms, many businesses find their existing fulfillment processes can’t keep pace. The key to scaling effectively is automation and smart data analysis, ensuring that increased volumes don’t lead to decreased customer satisfaction.
What are the challenges in integrating technology with traditional fulfillment methods? Traditional fulfillment relies on manual processes that are hard to scale. Integrating modern tech requires a shift in mindset, training, and sometimes, infrastructure. It’s not just about adding technology; it’s about creating a harmonious system where digital and physical processes enhance each other.
How can businesses adapt to the ever-evolving customer expectations for speed and convenience? To meet these demands, businesses must look beyond the traditional delivery models. This means exploring partnerships with local delivery services, investing in logistics software that optimizes routes, and possibly considering micro-fulfillment centers for faster delivery options.
Is it possible to balance cost with the need for faster delivery options? Absolutely. The secret lies in finding the sweet spot between logistics efficiency and customer expectations. This could mean offering tiered delivery options or leveraging predictive analytics to stock products closer to where the demand is highest.
What complexities do businesses face with cross-border e-commerce logistics? Navigating customs, taxes, and different carrier requirements are just the tip of the iceberg. A reliable logistics partner can provide the expertise to manage these complexities, ensuring smooth international expansion.
How can businesses handle increased order volumes without compromising quality? Quality doesn’t have to be a casualty of volume. Implement inventory management systems that trigger restocks at the right time, use quality management software to track product issues, and always have a customer support team ready to address any concerns.
What strategies can streamline logistics to keep up with instant gratification trends? The key is to anticipate demand before it happens. Use historical sales data to forecast needs, implement real-time tracking within the warehouse, and automate wherever possible to reduce the time from order to delivery.
Can sustainable practices be implemented without inflating costs? Sustainability and cost-efficiency can go hand in hand. For instance, optimizing packaging to reduce waste also reduces shipping costs. Investing in renewable energy for warehouses might have an upfront cost but can lead to long-term savings.
How can businesses overcome the lack of visibility and control over the supply chain? Invest in supply chain management solutions that offer real-time visibility and analytics. This way, you can make informed decisions quickly and maintain control over each step of the fulfillment process.
What role does data analytics play in forecasting demand? Data analytics is crucial. It turns historical sales figures into predictive insights, helping businesses prepare for future demand, optimize inventory levels, and prevent both overstocking and stockouts.
Why should businesses tailor their logistics solutions? Customization is not just a luxury; it’s a necessity. Different industries have different needs, and a one-size-fits-all approach to logistics simply doesn’t cut it. Tailored solutions ensure that the unique requirements of each sector are met.
What differentiates modern fulfillment models from traditional ones? Modern fulfillment models are built around technology and scalability. They are designed to adapt quickly to changes in demand and are often more cost-effective due to their reliance on data and automation.
What benefits do AI and machine learning bring to supply chain management? AI and machine learning offer predictive insights that can revolutionize inventory management, demand forecasting, and even customer service, leading to a more responsive and efficient supply chain.
What should businesses look for in a logistics partner? Look for flexibility, a commitment to technology, and a culture of continuous improvement. The right partner should not just respond to your needs but anticipate them, offering solutions that scale and evolve with your business.
What can businesses gain from adopting new fulfillment technologies? Adopting new technologies can lead to greater efficiency, reduced costs, and improved customer satisfaction. It can also provide a competitive edge, allowing businesses to fulfill orders faster and more accurately.
How can businesses ensure they are choosing the right supplier of logistics? Ask about their use of technology, their approach to customer service, and their ability to scale with your business. Don’t just take their word for it; ask for case studies or references.
What is the core takeaway for businesses when it comes to e-commerce fulfillment? E-commerce fulfillment is rapidly evolving, and businesses must stay agile to keep up. This means leveraging data, embracing technology, and ensuring your logistics are as customer centric as your sales approach.

Unleashing the Potential of Fulfillment Centers
Supply chain optimization is no longer just a buzzword but a strategic imperative for businesses seeking efficiency and competitiveness. At the heart of this optimization lies the fulfillment center – a nerve center that can make or break the supply chain’s efficiency. Let’s delve into the complexities and solutions that fulfillment center strategies can offer.
Inefficiencies in Order Fulfillment:
Question: What are the common inefficiencies businesses face in order fulfillment?
Answer: The most common inefficiencies include delays in processing orders, inaccuracies in picking and packing, and the inability to adapt to high-volume demand periods. These can lead to delayed shipments, incorrect orders, and ultimately, dissatisfied customers.
High Operational Costs and Wasted Resources:
Question: How do high operational costs manifest in fulfillment centers?
Answer: Costs spiral due to wasteful use of space, employee time, and packaging materials. Inefficient resource management, such as holding excess inventory or expending more labor than necessary, can quickly drive up expenses.
Difficulty in Adapting to Market Changes:
Question: Why is it challenging for fulfillment centers to adapt to market changes and demand fluctuations?
Answer: Many fulfillment centers are set in their ways, using outdated systems that can’t quickly respond to changes in consumer behavior or sudden market shifts. This rigidity hampers their ability to scale up or down as needed.
Challenges in Managing Inventory and Storage:
Question: What makes inventory and storage management so challenging?
Answer: The challenge lies in maintaining the right balance – too much inventory can lead to increased costs, while too little can result in stockouts. Additionally, inefficient storage can lead to wasted space and time as workers navigate a disorganized warehouse.
The Financial Drain of Under-Optimized Fulfillment Processes:
Question: How do under-optimized fulfillment processes drain finances?
Answer: They increase costs through errors and returns, necessitate excess buffer stock to compensate for inefficiencies, and incur higher shipping costs due to expedited deliveries to meet deadlines.
The Missed Opportunities Due to a Lack of Data-Driven Decision-Making:
Question: What opportunities are missed without data-driven decision-making?
Answer: Without leveraging data, businesses miss out on insights that could drive strategic decisions like optimizing inventory levels, anticipating customer buying patterns, and improving product placement for faster picking.
The Risk of Losing Competitive Advantage:
Question: How does sluggish fulfillment affect a business’s competitive advantage?
Answer: Slow fulfillment leads to poor customer experiences, reflected in reviews and repeat business. Competitors with faster, more accurate fulfillment will inevitably attract customers looking for better service.
Streamlined Processes for Order Fulfillment:
Question: What does a streamlined order fulfillment process look like?
Answer: A streamlined process is efficient, error-free, and adaptable. It uses technology to automate tasks, provides clear guidelines for employees, and maintains flexibility to adjust for order volume variations.
Cost-Effective Solutions for Storage and Inventory Management:
Question: What are some cost-effective solutions for storage and inventory management?
Answer: Solutions include just-in-time inventory to reduce holding costs, intelligent warehousing with optimized storage designs, and automated systems for real-time inventory tracking.
Agile Responses to Changing Market Demands:
Question: How can fulfillment centers become more agile in response to market demands?
Answer: Agility comes from integrating predictive analytics, flexible workforce management, and scalable storage and transportation solutions that can expand or contract as needed.
Data Analytics for Improved Decision-Making:
Question: In what ways can data analytics improve decision-making in fulfillment centers?
Answer: Data analytics can forecast demand, identify bottlenecks in the supply chain, and suggest optimizations for routes, inventory, and labor allocation.
Return on Investment from Advanced Fulfillment Strategies:
Question: What ROI can businesses expect from advanced fulfillment strategies?
Answer: Businesses can see lower operational costs, higher customer retention rates due to improved service, and the ability to scale operations efficiently without proportional increases in costs.
Questions for Logistics Suppliers:
Question: What critical questions should businesses ask their logistics suppliers?
Answer: Businesses should inquire about the suppliers’ capacity for data integration, their strategies for peak demand periods, quality control measures during fulfillment, and how they maintain consistency in service levels.
